In a reply to a tweet, MuscleNerd of iPhone Dev Team has confirmed that iOS 4 (formerly iPhone OS 4) is confirmed to be unlockable, and probably so is the yet to be released iPhone 4. What they have actually got this time around is a new exploit for the latest 05.12.01 / 05.13.04 basebands, which they have been saving for months for a major new update – the time for which has now come.

@Enemy yep…the final 4.0 next week will be an even later version and is confirmed unlockable (possibly iPhone4 too)

As we all know, Apple is set to release the final version of iOS 4 this Monday, followed by first batch of iPhone 4 devices that will ship next week (June 24th). Final versions of these jailbreaking and unlocking tools for iOS 4 / iPhone 3.1.3 on 05.12.01 and 05.13.xx baseband can be expected right after the said OS and device has been released. Stay tuned as will update you, with complete how-to guides whenever they are available for download.

iPhone Dev Team Working Hard To Release Tools To Jailbreak And Unlock iOS 4; Warn Unlockers To Avoid Upgrading To iOS 4

Apple has finally released iOS 4 for iPhone and iPod Touch users.

One of the things that users who have jailbroken and unlocked their iPhone are eagerly waiting to find out is whether iOS 4 can be jailbroken and unlocked.

iPhone Dev Team have just published a blog post advising users who need to software unlock their iPhone to avoid updating to iOS 4 until they release their tools to jailbreak and unlock iPhone iOS 4:

We are working hard on a release to our tools that will jailbreak your device (or give you iOS 4 via the jailbreak train) and provide you with a carrier unlock.

Until these tools are released you should hold off on updating your device until we have fully tested our tools with all the relevant devices.

If you rely on hacktivation or a carrier unlock (ultrasn0w) then you should not upgrade until we have fully tested and released our tools.

Don’t be tempted with unofficial PwnageTool/redsn0w bundles or releases, just check here or our team twitter for real time release information.

Remember, we risk our devices so you don’t have to (but this time anyone who has made a mistake upgrading their baseband firmware at 3.1.3 or 4.0 should be OK real soon ;)

MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev Team has reconfirmed over the weekend that it will be possible to unlock the new baseband (05.13.04) that is included in iOS 4 Golden Master and that it might be possible to also unlock iPhone 4. Its the same baseband in iOS 4 that was released today, so expect to get the good news soon.

Unlock iPhone OS 4 Beta on iPhone 3G with ultrasn0w

Now that we have a jailbreak (developers only) for iPhone OS 4 Beta, and an upgraded version of Fuzzyband (Baseband downgrader). Technically, iPhone 3G can now be unlocked on the latest iPhone OS 4 Beta, provided that you have one of those rare iPhone 3G’s with 05.08 bootloader that is downgradable to 05.13.03 baseband of OS 4 to 04.26.08 so that ultrasn0w can unlock it.

NOTE: I haven’t tested this on my iPhone 3G. This is only for iPhone 3G with 05.08 bootloader. Proceed only at your own risk.

Step 1: First follow the complete step by step guide posted here to jailbreak iPhone 3G on iPhone OS 4 Beta firmware.

Step 2: Using Fuzzyband, downgrade your baseband 05.13.03 to 04.26.08. Step by step instructions for downgrading baseband can be found here.

Step 3: Now start “Cydia” on your iPhone and touch on “Manage” tab on the bottom. Now touch on “Sources” as seen in the screenshot below:

Note: T-Mobile users should disable 3G before installing ultrasn0w.

Step 4: Touch on “Edit” and then on “Add”. You will be prompted to enter a url source as seen in the screenshot below. Type “http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com” and touch on “Add Source”.

Cydia will now automatically update your sources by following a series of automated steps.

Step 5: Once the repository has been added successfully, Search for “ultrasn0w” in Cydia and install this application.

Step 6: Now simply restart your iPhone.

If all goes well, you should now have an unlocked iPhone 3G running on iPhone OS 4 Beta. Let us know if this worked for you in the comments section below.

How to use installous 1) Tap the install0us icon on your springboard to launch the app.


2) Type in the site you want to download from (I'm using appulo.us just because it's easiest.


3) [Appulo.us only] Find the app you want to download and scroll to the bottom to choose a version.


4) [Appulo.us only] Now choose a site to download it from, doesn't really matter which (and enter the CAPTCHA if necessary).


5) Now sit back and relax for a bit whilst it downloads.


6) Once it's finished downloading, tap the downloads tab followed by the app you want to install, and then install.


7) Wait for the app to install, depending on the size of the app it may take a while.


8) Exit install0us back to the springboard, and check if the app is working.
